Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the employing state as required.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Update patient information and decontaminate as required.
• Explain venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique with straight or butterfly needles.
• Understand physicians' orders.
• Match lab requisitions to specimens; label, centrifuge, split and freeze as required.
• Check test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and label containers.
• Follow transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
• Attend annual department trainings and answer inquiries.
