Collaborative for Children is hiring a Part‑Time Community RV Driver (20 hours/week) in Houston, TX.

Position Summary

Perform driving services for the mobile education unit (Collab‑Lab), including service delivery routes, marketing events, and organization‑sponsored events throughout the Greater Houston area. Ensure the safety of all program participants, perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance on the vehicle, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and serve as the liaison with the internal IT team for resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Complete pre‑trip RV inspections (oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, steering, tire and water pressures).
  • Ensure the Collab‑Lab is fueled and ready for use.
  • Perform inspections of the Collab‑Lab before and after each trip.
  • Make timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays.
  • Arrive at destinations on schedule and use navigation applications to determine the best routes.
  • Interact professionally with families and Collab staff at all times.
  • Coordinate with the IT Manager for vehicle repairs as needed and consult with the event supervisor.
  • Obey all traffic laws and maintain a clean, mechanically sound vehicle, including interior sanitizing.
  • Perform emergency RV evacuation safely for children, caregivers, and Collab staff, including use of the emergency door.
  • Practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.
  • Administer basic first aid as trained, when necessary.
  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and reflectors.
  • Assist Collab‑Lab staff as needed at scheduled venues.
Qualifications
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of experience driving large vehicles (35 feet or longer) with similar duties.
  • TXDL ClassC driver’s license (ClassB CDL desired).
  • Training in RV driving techniques, inclusive of safety and operating protocols.
  • State Bus Driver’s Certification course preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance (tire pressure, oil and water levels).
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret routes and maps.
  • Sound judgment in evaluating safety situations and escalation of issues.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification highly preferred, or willingness to be trained/certified.
  • High level of self‑management, approachability, and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Vehicle maintenance record‑keeping experience preferred.
  • Clear driving record per Texas Department of Public Safety, with no moving violations within the last 3 years, no DUI/DWI convictions, and no more than two accident convictions.
  • Fluency in a second language helpful.
  • Experience troubleshooting technology and RV functionality helpful.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to twist the upper body and neck while driving, including driving in reverse.
  • Work positions include kneeling, climbing, and extended reach (12 inches above head, 14 inches in front of body).
  • Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing, walking, and lifting approximately 25 pounds numerous times per shift.
  • Ability to hear, see, and speak with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Good vision and hearing acuity (with glasses and hearing aids if necessary).
  • Ability to recognize traffic signal colors (red, green, amber).
  • Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening, DOT physical, and pre‑employment screening.
  • Minimum age: 22 years old.
  • Must have schedule flexibility for non‑standard weekday hours, split shifts, and occasional weekend hours.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation and valid Texas driver’s license with RV classification.
  • Must have current personal vehicle insurance coverage.
Pay and Hours

Driving hours may vary based on event commitments. This is a contract, part‑time position paid hourly at $15–$20 per hour, paid bi‑weekly upon receipt of an invoice.
