Job summary

Our client, a prestigious law firm based in White Plains, NY, seeks a Contract IP Litigation Attorney for a long-term remote assignment starting ASAP. You will work directly with clients and partners on active intellectual property disputes and take ownership of matters with limited supervision.

Responsibilities include drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, handling matters in federal court, supporting hearings and trial prep, and coordinating with experts.

Qualifications

• Must be admitted and in good standing in New York or eligible for admission in NY.
• Available for full-time hours.
• Start ASAP for approximately 3–6 months.
• Technical degree is preferred for patent-focused candidates.
• USPTO registration preferred for patent-focused candidates.

• Provide substantive support to a busy litigation team.
• Take ownership of assigned matters with limited supervision.
• Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and pre-trial submissions.
• Handle matters in federal district court.
• Assist with matters before the TTAB and/or PTAB, where applicable.
• Participate in case strategy and planning.
• Manage discovery from beginning to end.
• Assist with ESI and document review strategy.
• Work with experts and assist with expert discovery.
• Take and defend fact depositions.
• Take and defend expert depositions.
• Argue discovery and substantive motions where appropriate.
• Assist with hearings and trial preparation.
• Communicate directly with partners and clients.
• Manage deadlines and competing priorities across active matters.
• Work independently and proactively identify what needs to be done.
• Provide immediate bandwidth while permanent associates are out on leave.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of IP litigation experience.
• Substantial litigation experience in federal court.
• Federal judicial clerkship / experience working with a federal judge highly preferred.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Experience drafting substantive federal court filings.
• Experience with pleadings and motion practice.
• Ability to independently manage substantive litigation assignments.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to quickly understand sophisticated legal and factual issues.
• Comfortable working directly with partners and clients.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Skills

• Patent and/or trademark prosecution experience is a plus.
