Our client, an AmLaw 50 firm, is seeking a Patent Litigation Associate to join its Intellectual Property Practice in New York. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level attorney with 3–5 years of sophisticated patent litigation experience who is looking to continue developing their practice while handling complex, high-stakes intellectual property disputes.
Responsibilities:
- Represent patent owners and accused infringers in sophisticated patent infringement disputes.
- Handle patent litigation matters before federal district courts and, as applicable, the International Trade Commission and USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
- Draft and assist with pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive filings throughout all stages of patent litigation.
- Conduct legal and factual research involving complex patent, technical, and procedural issues.
- Assist with fact and expert discovery, including document discovery, depositions, and development of technical evidence.
- Work with technical experts and clients to analyze complex technologies and develop litigation strategy.
- Assist with claim construction, infringement and invalidity issues, and other substantive aspects of patent disputes.
- Prepare for hearings, depositions, trials, and other significant proceedings.
- Collaborate with partners, associates, technical professionals, and clients on complex patent litigation matters.
- Take increasing responsibility for substantive workstreams and overall case strategy.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of substantive patent litigation experience.
- Significant experience representing patent owners and/or accused infringers in complex patent disputes.
- Experience litigating patent matters before federal district courts, the ITC, and/or the USPTO in PTAB proceedings.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and understand complex technical subject matter and incorporate technical issues into litigation strategy.
- Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
- USPTO registration is a plus but is not required.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the New York State Bar.
