Job summary

Chicago Magnesium Casting Co. is seeking an engineering-support professional to assist with continuous improvement, 3D design & print work, scrap reduction projects, process design/optimization and overall production support.

You will design, print and test 3D fixtures for production needs, apply lean manufacturing tools, interpret customer B/Ps, and collaborate with engineers to fix defects and improve on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience applying lean manufacturing principles.
• Ability to read and interpret customer B/Ps.
• Experience designing, printing and testing 3D fixtures.

Responsibilities

• Design, create, print and test 3D fixtures for production needs.
• Develop understanding of lean manufacturing principles and tools for improvement projects.
• Understand customer requirements, scrap challenges and rework; deliver quality workmanship.
• Participate in the MRB to identify root causes of defects.
• Analyze processes and engineering changes to improve productivity and on-time delivery.
• Collaborate with technical writers to update work instructions after improvements.
• Model castings and gating systems in CAD for simulation.
• Work with engineers to fix process/design issues leading to scrap.
• Support company and management with other responsibilities as needed.

Job description

Basic Function

Assist the Engineering Department with various assignments including but not limited to: continuous improvement initiatives, 3D design & print work, scrap reductions projects, process design/optimization, non-conforming material review, and overall production support.

General Responsibilities

• Collaborate with shop personnel to understand internal processes and product flow.
• Wear proper safety equipment and maintain a clean, safe work area at all times.
• Understand how to read and interpret customer B/P's.
• Perform job tasks efficiently according to established standards to deliver quality workmanship.
• Report any problems, discrepancies, or issues to immediate management.

Specific Responsibilities

• Design, create, print and test 3D fixtures for production needs; working with inputs from production team
• Develop an understanding of lean manufacturing principles as well as the tools required to implement continuous improvement projects
• Understand customer requirements, internal scrap challenges, rework, customer returns, the impact they have on your job and demonstrate ability to deliver quality & efficient workmanship.
• Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) to identify root cause of defects found in production.
• Analyze processes and input engineering changes that will lead to performance gains in productivity, quality, and/or On Time Delivery to our customers.
• Collaborate with technical writers on updating work instructions where needed and/or after successful process improvement initiatives
• Model castings and gating systems in CAD software for use in simulation applications.
• Work with engineers to fix process and/or design issues leading to the production of scrap.
