Job summary

Northern VA Community College is seeking a Content Tutor for Medical Laboratory Assistant subjects in Fairfax County. This part-time role supports students with healthcare topics, math, sciences and writing while implementing effective study skills.

The tutor collaborates with faculty, ASC Manager and Tutoring Services to form study groups, assign resources, and guide students toward academic improvement. Prior MLA tutoring experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with one-on-one and group tutoring.
• Experience as a medical laboratory assistant.

Job Description

The Content Tutor: Medical Laboratory Assistant cooperatively assist students with various healthcare subjects including but not limited to math, sciences, and writing (as feasible) through instruction and implementing study skills.

Duties and Tasks

• Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed
• Assist ASC Manager in forming specialized study groups as need arises
• Assign software programs to assist students in various academic programs
• Distribute information leading to academic improvement
• Consult with faculty regarding center’s resources
• Research current list of useful Internet resources for student and faculty use
• Work closely with Tutoring Services Coordinator, academic discipline faculty and staff, and Student Services faculty and staff to provide optimal services to students
• Provide tutoring services orientation for any willing faculty member

Minimum Qualifications

Additional Considerations

• Tutoring and/or teaching experience of medical laboratory assistant curricula.
• Earned credential (certificate) in medical laboratory assisting or related health science field.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) from the American Medical Technologist Certification national examination.
