Job summary

Northern VA Community College in Fairfax County seeks a part-time Content Tutor specializing in clinical data coding to support students across healthcare subjects. You will provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring, guide study skills, and help students master health information concepts.

The role requires familiarity with the clinical data coding field, RHIT credentials preferred, and strong communication and customer-service skills to assist a diverse student body.

Qualifications

• Experience with one-on-one and/or group tutoring.
• Tutoring and/or teaching experience of clinical data coding.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed.
• Assist ASC Manager in forming specialized study groups as need arises.
• Assign software programs to assist students in various academic programs.
• Distribute information leading to academic improvement.
• Consult with faculty regarding center's resources.
• Research current list of useful Internet resources for student and faculty use.
• Work closely with Tutoring Services Coordinator, academic discipline faculty and staff, and Student Services faculty and staff to provide optimal services to students.
• Provide tutoring services orientation for any willing faculty member.

Job Description

General Description: The Content Tutor: clinical data coding cooperatively assist students with various healthcare subjects including but not limited to math, sciences, and writing (as feasible) through instruction and implementing study skills.

Duties and Tasks

• Provide tutoring assistance to students as needed
• Assist ASC Manager in forming specialized study groups as need arises
• Assign software programs to assist students in various academic programs
• Distribute information leading to academic improvement
• Consult with faculty regarding center's resources
• Research current list of useful Internet resources for student and faculty use
• Work closely with Tutoring Services Coordinator, academic discipline faculty and staff, and Student Services faculty and staff to provide optimal services to students
• Provide tutoring services orientation for any willing faculty member

Minimum Qualifications

Additional Considerations

• Earned credential (certificate, associate of applied science degree, bachelor's degree) in clinical data coding skills
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
• Satisfactorily passed undergraduate coursework in health information management or related health science field within 3 years of date of application
