Job summary

American Nurses Association (ANA) seeks a seasoned Content Manager to shape the voice of the enterprise across websites, emails, speeches, and publications. You will craft, edit, and manage strategic content while collaborating with the CEO, communications leadership, and confidential teams.

You will translate health policy and workforce trends into compelling, accessible content for diverse audiences, supporting senior executives and coordinating editorial calendars.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • 5–7 years of experience in content development, communications, journalism, or related fields.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and platforms.
  • Experience supporting senior executives with communications, presentations, and speechwriting.
  • Experience developing and handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Understanding of public policy issues, preferably in health care or nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Management: Write and edit original content for digital platforms, email campaigns, print materials, video scripts, op-eds, and more—ensuring clarity, accuracy, and brand alignment.
  • Executive Communications: Develop executive-level communications including speeches, presentations, letters, and internal/external messages, including sensitive content for executive engagement.
  • Editorial Planning: Maintain an editorial calendar aligned with organizational initiatives, campaigns, and policy priorities; manage an executive editorial calendar with confidential content.
  • Strategic Storytelling: Identify, curate, and elevate stories from nurses, members, and stakeholders to bring the Enterprise’s mission and brand to life.
  • Cross-Functional Sourcing: Work with programs, events, research, and media coverage to source stories for multiple content channels.
  • Policy-Informed Communications: Handle highly sensitive policy-related content and confidential information; stay updated on health policy issues and workforce challenges affecting nurses.
  • Translate complex topics into accessible content that educates and inspires; ensure content reflects current priorities in collaboration with policy and advocacy teams.
  • Executive Content Development: Serve as key point of contact for the executive office for confidential content development and publication.
  • Executive Communications: Draft speeches, keynote remarks, talking points, and high-visibility communications for executives.

The Communications and Strategic Engagement team is seeking a high-performing and dedicated Content Manager. The Content Manager shapes the voice of the American Nurses Enterprise through compelling, strategic, and timely written content. This role creates and manages high-impact editorial content across platforms including websites, emails, speeches, social media, publications, and executive communications. The Content Manager collaborates with the chief executive office, chief communications office, and other confidential teams to draft and develop highly sensitive content and narratives. The ideal candidate is a gifted writer, strong editor, and confident communicator who can translate complex issues—including health policy and workforce trends—into content for internal and external audiences.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure consistency of tone, voice, and messaging across all written content; support the development and maintenance of enterprise-wide editorial guidelines.

What You Bring To The American Nurses Enterprise

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).

Related Work Experience

  • 5–7 years of experience in content development, communications, journalism, or related fields.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and platforms.
  • Experience supporting senior executives with communications, presentations, and speechwriting.
  • Experience developing and handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Understanding of public policy issues, preferably in health care or nursing.
  • Ability to synthesize complex topics into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Collaborative, proactive mindset; ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Role may require standby after hours or weekends for critical content activities.
  • Preferred
  • Nursing background is highly preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, policy, or nonprofit sectors
  • Familiarity with nursing or health workforce issues
  • Experience using content management systems, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools
