Title: Freelance Content Manager

Our client is a PR agency that tells stories that cut through culture, drive reputation, and build long‑term trust, working across integrated, cross‑channel campaigns that blend PR, social, digital, and experiential.

Locations: Hybrid in NYC or Pittsburgh

Rate: $30-40/hr

Duration: on‑going contract

Role Overview

The Freelance Content Manager will support the PR and integrated communications teams by planning, creating, and managing content that amplifies earned media programs and brand storytelling. This role is ideal for someone who has prior experience working at a PR agency and is comfortable collaborating with account, creative, and social teams in a fast‑paced, client‑facing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with PR account teams to translate communications strategies and campaign plans into clear content roadmaps and calendars.
  • Develop and edit content assets that support earned and integrated campaigns (e.g., press‑facing materials, thought leadership, blog posts, web copy, social content, talking points, and basic internal communications drafts as needed).
  • Adapt messaging for multiple channels and audiences while maintaining brand voice and alignment with clients’ communications strategies.
  • Work closely with PR, strategy, and creative partners to ensure content ideas are insight‑driven, newsworthy, and aligned to cultural and media moments.
  • Manage content timelines and workflows, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, properly reviewed, and ready for client presentation.
  • Monitor media, cultural trends, and competitor activity to help identify timely content angles that support earned coverage and social engagement.
  • Support the preparation of client presentations and reports with concise narratives, case study write‑ups, and campaign recaps.
  • Excellent understanding of and ability to navigate both native platforms/tools for all major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat).
Qualifications
  • Required: Experience working for or with a PR (public relations) agency, supporting multiple clients or brands.
  • Proven background in content development for communications, marketing, or PR, ideally spanning both digital and traditional channels.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong command of narrative, tone, and structure, including long‑form content and social media copy.
  • Strong understanding of social platforms, native tools, and major content management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout, Hootsuite, Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Meltwater).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and juggle multiple projects in a fast‑paced agency environment.
  • Strong writing skills for long‑form and social media copy.
  • Ability to work hybrid from either New York City or Pittsburgh for collaboration, key meetings, and client needs.
