Job summary

Public Service Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our lending team in Michigan. You will evaluate consumer loan applications, analyze credit risk, and make sound lending decisions in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements.

The role balances responsible credit extension with exceptional member service, supporting PSCU's mission to improve members' financial well-being through accurate underwriting and collaboration with branch staff.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of lending regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to analyze financial information and assess credit risk.
• Strong attention to detail, organization and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite consumer loan applications including auto loans, personal loans, home equities, and lines of credit.
• Analyze credit reports, income documentation, debt-to-income ratios, loan-to-value ratios, and overall financial profiles.
• Make lending decisions within assigned authority levels or recommend decisions to senior underwriters or managers when required.
• Communicate loan decisions clearly and effectively to internal staff and occasionally to members, offering alternative solutions when appropriate.
• Collaborate with Branch staff to gather required documentation and provide guidance on loan structures.
