Job summary

Public Service Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our lending team in Michigan. You will evaluate loan applications, analyze risk, and make sound decisions in line with policies and regulatory requirements.

The role emphasizes balancing responsible credit with excellent member service, collaborating with branches, and maintaining accurate LOS records. Ideal candidates have at least 1 year in lending and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a financial institution.
• Consumer lending or underwriting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite consumer loan applications including auto, personal, home equity, and lines of credit.
• Review credit reports, income documentation, debt-to-income and loan-to-value ratios.
• Make lending decisions within authority or escalate to senior underwriters.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., BSA, ECOA, TILA).
• Collaborate with Branch staff to gather documentation and explain loan structures.
• Maintain accurate loan records in the loan origination system (LOS).
• Support training and participate in quality reviews and process improvements.
