Job summary

PSEG Long Island is seeking a Consumer Advocate to connect customers with eligible assistance programs and benefits. The role blends field and office work, partnering with agencies to resolve inquiries and ensure financial stability for customers.

Responsibilities include assessing eligibility, developing action plans, conducting outreach, and reporting outcomes. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience or 9 years of relevant work is required, with bilingual skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Business, or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in social work or community outreach; or 9 years of experience without a degree.
  • Bilingual in English and another language (Spanish, Chinese, or French Creole preferred).
  • Demonstrated empathy and strong active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of government benefit programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Compliance with 10 CFR 810 is required.

  • Advocate for customers experiencing financial hardship and help establish payment plans.
  • Conduct interviews to develop action plans and assist with program applications.
  • Promote the Household Assistance Program and contribute to annual metrics.
  • Participate in outreach events; weekend and evenings as needed.
  • Present to staff, community leaders, and customers on available services.
  • Build partnerships with nonprofit, government, and business leaders to serve the community.
  • Represent PSEG Long Island on local advisory boards and committees.
  • Collaborate with social service agencies to connect customers with resources.
  • Track community trends and underserved demographics to improve targeting.
  • Complete detailed monthly reports on outreach activities, enrollment, and outcomes.

Job Summary

The Consumer Advocate connects low to moderate income customers and those facing financial hardships with eligible assistance programs and benefits. Operating in the field and the office, the Advocate partners with community agencies and social service offices, attends outreach events, and resolves escalated customer inquiries to ensure financial stability and access to vital resources.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with customers to develop action plans for their specific needs & assist with program applications.

  • Participate in outreach events to assist customers. Weekend & evenings, as needed.
  • Present to staff, community leaders, & customers on available services.
  • Build strategic partnerships with leaders across nonprofit, government, and business sectors to collaboratively serve the community.

  • Collaborate directly with social service agencies to connect customers with resources.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Business, or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in social work or community outreach; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in social work or community outreach
