PSEG Long Island is seeking a Bilingual Consumer Advocate to connect customers with eligible assistance programs and benefits, working in the field and office. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Business, or related discipline with 5+ years in social work/outreach (or 9 years without a degree).
  • Bilingual in English and another language (Spanish/Chinese/French Creole preferred).
  • Empathy and active listening; knowledge of government benefit programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong teamwork and data analysis skills with good communication.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Compliance with 10 CFR 810 regulations.

Job Summary

The Consumer Advocate connects low to moderate income customers and those facing financial hardships with eligible assistance programs and benefits. Operating in the field and the office, the Advocate partners with community agencies and social service offices, attends outreach events, and resolves escalated customer inquiries to ensure financial stability and access to vital resources.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate PSEG Long Island core values in all interactions.
  • Assess accounts to determine eligibility for programs & services.
  • Advocate for customers experiencing financial hardship & help them establish manageable payment plans.
  • Conduct interviews with customers to develop action plans for their specific needs & assist with program applications.
  • Promote the Household Assistance Program and contribute to the annual metric.
  • Participate in outreach events to assist customers. Weekend & evenings, as needed.
  • Present to staff, community leaders, & customers on available services.
  • Build strategic partnerships with leaders across nonprofit, government, and business sectors to collaboratively serve the community.
  • Represent PSEG Long Island on local advisory boards & committees.
  • Collaborate directly with social service agencies to connect customers with resources.
  • Track community trends & identify underserved demographics to improve program targeting.

Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Business, or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in social work or community outreach; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in social work or community outreach.
  • Bilingual in English and another language (Spanish, Chinese, or French Creole preferred).
  • Demonstrated empathy and strong active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of government benefit programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Desired:
  • Utility/Energy Efficiency experience.
