Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Corrections seeks a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher at SCI Benner Township to equip students with hands-on plumbing and heating skills.

You will supervise classroom and shop instruction, manage records, and monitor behavior to maintain a productive learning environment. Eligible candidates should meet the PA educational certificates requirements and a 3-year apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to high school graduation with two years wage earning experience beyond apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating.
• If there is no approved apprenticeship period, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years wage earning experience in Plumbing and Heating.
• Possession of or eligibility for PA Vocational Certificate I or II for Plumbing and Heating, or Vocational Intern Certificate, or Emergency Certificate for Plumbing and Heating.

Responsibilities

• Adapt curriculum materials based on placement assessments to meet student learning needs.
• Deliver classroom and shop lessons in plumbing and heating skills within construction trades.
• Maintain student attendance, education records, inventories, and supply orders according to procedures.
• Establish rules, monitor inmate conduct, and take corrective action to maintain a productive learning environment.
• Develop and administer tests, quizzes, and final evaluations to measure student progress.
