Job summary

Kitsap Public Utility District is seeking a hands-on construction professional to support our Construction Division in building and repairing water infrastructure. Responsibilities include excavation, water mains, pump houses, and heavy equipment operation, with a focus on safety and teamwork.

The role requires years of experience with utility construction, a valid WA driver’s license, and the ability to respond to emergencies outside regular hours.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience operating a backhoe, excavator or pipe layer.
  • 3-5 years’ prior experience with installation/repair associated with underground utilities including water main installation and excavation.
  • At least five years prior experience in operating tools/equipment used in various construction activities.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Applies knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions when performing utility work.
  • Works individually or as part of a team to identify and repair problems in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to KPUD’s core values when working alone, within a team, and with customers.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic to carry out KPUD’s mission of “Strengthening Kitsap communities through responsive and sustainable utility services.”
  • Responsible for the construction of new water system infrastructure, such as water mains and pump houses.
  • Performs various duties related to excavation and underground utility construction, such as flagging, shoveling, grounds restoration, general construction, driving commercial vehicles, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of water system infrastructure, such as valve exercising, flushing, inspection of control valves, fire hydrants, pressure tanks and standpipes, general facilities building maintenance, water meter replacements, and water main breaks.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls outside of regular work hours.
  • Perform other work-related tasks, as assigned.
  • Working conditions include, Carry, climb, and operate an extension ladder (approx. 28ft high and 75 pounds), Lift, and move up to 50 pounds, Use Construction equipment and hand tools, Frequently sitting and standing for extended periods, moderate noise level, with occasional exposure to high noise levels. Working in the field, all weathers, around moving traffic.

$33.51 - 40.22 - Depending on Experience

The primary function of this position is to support our Construction Division in conducting the needs of the utility. Performs a variety of activities related to the construction of utility infrastructure.

Reporting To: Senior Construction Manager
Department: Construction
Schedule: Monday – Thursday 6:30am – 5:00pm

Requirements Include
