Job summary

Kitsap Public Utility District is seeking a Telecom Technician to support the Telecom Department in building and maintaining fiber infrastructure. You will collaborate with project managers and OSP engineers to install fiber and restore services during outages, working in a field environment across district facilities.

This on-site role requires a Washington driver’s license, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Excellent problem-solving capability and ability to work well in a changing environment.
  • Ability to adhere to local and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner required.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with construction project managers and/or OSP Engineers to perform fiber installation, as directed.
  • Respond to and restore services for emergency calls.
  • Be on the job on short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.
  • Engage with Telecom and non-Telecom staff to enhance operational processes within the District.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience to troubleshoot, identify, and repair problems on the network.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency calls outside of normal work hours and may be included in on-call rotation, depending on experience.

$33.51 - $40.22 per hour - Depending on Experience and Qualifications

The primary function of this position is to support the Telecom Department in carrying out the needs of the utility. Perform a variety of activities related to the operations and construction of Telecom utility infrastructure.

Reporting To: Telecommunications Superintendent
Department: Telecommunications
Schedule: Monday – Thursday 6:30 am – 5:00 PM, occasional overtime, evenings & weekends

Special Requirements
  • Working conditions include lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Carry, climb and operate an extension ladder (approximately 28 ft high and 75 pounds).
  • Perform job from high places, towers, poles, and roofs.
  • Use construction equipment and hand tools.
  • Specific vision required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision.
  • Frequently sit or stand for extended periods in a field environment.
  • Moderate noise level, occasionally exposed to high noise levels, around moving traffic and night maintenance.
