Overview
Our customer is seeking experienced Construction Supervisors to support underground telecommunications construction projects throughout Ohio. This is a field-based leadership position responsible for directing crews, ensuring safe work practices, maintaining quality standards, and driving daily production activities.
The ideal candidate possesses strong underground construction experience and has a proven ability to lead field crews, coordinate job-site activities, and maintain a visible onsite presence throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Frontline Leadership & Crew Management
- Supervise and direct field crews, operators, laborers, locators, and subcontractors performing telecommunications construction.
- Communicate daily work expectations, production goals, and jobsite priorities.
- Conduct daily tailgate and safety meetings.
- Provide leadership through professionalism, accountability, urgency, and attention to detail.
- Coach crews and address performance, quality, and safety concerns in the field.
- Identify training opportunities and provide mentorship when needed.
- Foster a collaborative team environment built on communication, respect, and accountability.
- Serve as the primary liaison between field personnel and operations leadership.
Safety Compliance & Oversight
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA standards, DOT requirements, state 811 regulations, customer requirements, and company safety policies.
- Verify utility locates and dig tickets before excavation activities begin.
- Monitor proper use of PPE, excavation protection systems, traffic control measures, and construction safety practices.
- Identify and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Document and communicate hazards, incidents, and near misses.
- Complete and submit required safety documentation and jobsite reports.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and reinforce a safety-first culture.
Jobsite Planning & Project Execution
- Review construction prints, engineering drawings, permits, maps, work orders, and project requirements.
- Coordinate daily activities to ensure efficient and productive project execution.
- Monitor underground telecommunications construction activities and field operations.
- Ensure installations meet project specifications, depth requirements, and clearance standards.
- Inspect conduit installation, fiber placement, vault installation, tracer wire, restoration work, and related infrastructure.
- Verify traffic control and job site safety measures remain compliant throughout construction.
- Communicate field changes, schedule impacts, and project risks to management.
Quality Control & Documentation
- Perform routine inspections to verify workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
- Identify quality deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Track production metrics and monitor project progress.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, and safety documentation.
- Document field changes, redlines, and scope adjustments.
- Ensure all required project records are completed accurately and submitted on time.
Productivity & Resource Management
- Establish and communicate daily production goals.
- Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material consumption.
- Report equipment concerns, material shortages, permitting issues, and schedule impacts.
- Coordinate with engineering, logistics, warehouse teams, subcontractors, and project partners.
- Support efficient project execution while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Help minimize downtime and resolve field obstacles impacting production.
Construction Supervisors are expected to:
- Maintain an active daily presence at assigned jobsites.
- Take ownership of crew performance, safety compliance, and project quality.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites.
- Uphold company values and customer standards during all field interactions.
- Walk jobsites, inspect work, and actively support crews when necessary.
- Solve field challenges quickly using a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience supervising underground telecommunications or utility construction crews.
- Strong field leadership and crew management experience.
- Experience directing field activities rather than solely performing inspections.
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints, engineering plans, telecom maps, permits, and work orders.
- Working knowledge of utility locating practices and state 811 requirements.
- Understanding of excavation safety standards and underground construction methods.
- Experience with underground conduit and fiber placement projects.
- Experience tracking production and completing field reporting documentation.
- Strong communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, production tracking tools, and mobile reporting platforms.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors and travel between project locations.
- Eligibility to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- Telecommunications Construction Supervisor experience.
- Underground Construction Supervisor experience.
- Outside Plant (OSP) Supervisor experience.
- Telecom Field Supervisor experience.
- Utility Construction Supervisor experience.
- Underground Foreman or Lead Foreman experience.
- Experience with HDD operations, trenchers, mini-excavators, aerial construction, bucket trucks, and climbing equipment.
- Prior fiber infrastructure deployment experience.
