Qualifications

Position Overview

Nicholas & Associates, Inc., a leader in construction services across the sports & entertainment, commercial, education, private development, and multi-family markets, is seeking a Construction Superintendent to oversee day-to-day project operations. This role will lead field operation on complex, high-profile projects across the region and coordinates teams of contractors, architects, engineers, and owners to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and code compliance. As part of our growing Indiana operations, this position will also help establish operational processes, mentor future field team members, and support the continued expansion of Nicholas East throughout the region.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Open the construction site each day and secure it at the end of the day.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor activities and support future planning.
  • Lead and manage the on-site construction team.
  • Establish goals, schedules, and completion timelines for the construction team.
  • Develop and maintain schedule and look-ahead schedules.
  • Coordinate subcontractor sequencing and manpower with construction team.
  • Manage deliveries and site logistics.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to lead weekly construction progress meetings.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, architects, Project Managers, and owners.
  • Ensure contractors execute and comply with their contracted scope of work.
  • Identify work outside contractors’ scope and communicate issues promptly to the Project Manager, General Superintendent, and project owner.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and complies with safety and health regulations.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings and enforce company safety policies.
  • Maintain accurate records, including daily field reports and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Coordinate building inspections with state and local authorities and manage the end-of-project punch list to ensure completion of all items.
  • Develop and maintain detailed three-week look-ahead schedules and proactively identify potential schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate project turnover, owner training, commissioning, and closeout activities to ensure successful handoff to the owner.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to identify constructability issues, resolve field conflicts, and mitigate projects risks before they impact cost or schedule.
  • Mentor Assistant Superintendents and field staff while helping establish field standards and best practices.
  • Support recruiting and onboarding efforts as the Indian field team continues to grow.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of commercial construction experience, including experience as a Lead Superintendent on projects of similar size and complexity.
  • OSHA-30 certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents accurately.
  • Skilled in using scheduling software, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and digital documentation (e.g., uploading site photos).
  • Experience in commercial, multi-story residential, municipal, educational, or automotive construction preferred.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment, with the ability to maintain confidentiality, manage emotions, and respond effectively to questions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, presenting, and participating in meetings.
  • Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work in both office and construction site environments, including walking, standing, and occasionally lifting 30–50 pounds, with flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
