Job summary

Apscareerportal is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on complex commercial and healthcare construction projects in Montgomery, Alabama. This full-time role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, MEP coordination, infection-control requirements, and phased construction in occupied facilities.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial construction experience in superintendent or senior field leadership.
  • Experience managing complex commercial construction projects.
  • Strong mechanical/MEP coordination experience.
  • Healthcare construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in occupied healthcare facilities.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day field operations for commercial and healthcare construction projects.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, inspectors, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules with short-term and look-ahead planning.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other MEP systems with architectural and structural scopes.
  • Review plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to identify potential field conflicts and constructability issues.
  • Maintain a high level of quality control throughout all phases of construction.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Manage construction activities in active or occupied healthcare environments while minimizing disruption to patients, staff, and facility operations.
  • Coordinate infection-control measures, life-safety requirements, shutdowns, temporary services, and phased construction when applicable.
  • Conduct regular subcontractor coordination meetings and daily field meetings.
  • Monitor manpower, productivity, material deliveries, equipment, and overall project progress.
  • Identify schedule risks and work proactively with the Project Manager and project team to develop solutions.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional jobsite.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, project documentation, schedules, and field records.
  • Mentor and provide leadership to assistant superintendents, foremen, and other field personnel.

About the Opportunity

A highly respected and established construction company in Alabama is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on complex commercial and healthcare construction projects in the Montgomery market.

This is a key leadership position for a superintendent who understands that successful healthcare construction requires more than traditional commercial building experience. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of mechanical systems, MEP coordination, infection-control requirements, phasing, occupied facilities, and healthcare construction standards, along with the ability to lead subcontractors and field teams safely and efficiently.

Position Responsibilities

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent who has successfully managed complex projects and has a strong understanding of mechanical construction and healthcare environments.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably in a superintendent or senior field leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex commercial construction projects.
  • Strong mechanical/MEP coordination experience.
  • Healthcare construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in occupied healthcare facilities is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and construction best practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining schedule and quality expectations.
  • Proficiency with construction technology and scheduling/document-management platforms.
