Job summary

McNamara Companies is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities. The role focuses on accuracy of financial records, with responsibilities spanning journal entries, regulatory returns, and project accounting for multiple divisions.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
• Solid understanding of GAAP principles
• Proficiency with accounting software (Viewpoint or similar ERP)
• Experience with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
• Knowledge of job costing and construction project accounting is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors/clients

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day accounts payable.
• Prepare and file sales tax and other regulatory returns for multiple entities.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes and reconciliations.
• Prepare and post journal entries ensuring GAAP compliance.
• Provide billing and cash receipts recording and month-end accounting for divisions.
• Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and compliant.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
