Job summary

NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development is seeking an Assistant Commissioner for Construction Services to oversee a large portfolio of HPD‑assisted affordable housing projects. You will lead architects, engineers, and construction managers, ensuring quality, compliance with NYC codes, and timely completion across five boroughs.

The role requires a master’s degree and significant managerial experience in architecture, engineering, or public administration, with strong leadership

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in public administration, engineering, architecture or comparable field with 3 years of admin/managerial experience.
• A bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, including administrative/managerial duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to a large portfolio of HPD construction projects from start to closeout.
• Oversee engineers, architects and construction professionals ensuring code compliance.
• Guide staff performance, productivity, and collaboration across teams.
• Coordinate with internal executives and external partners to meet housing goals.
• Utilize best practices to deliver high-quality, cost-effective affordable housing.
• Prepare reports and dashboards for senior management and Associate Commissioner.
• Drive process improvements and portfolio performance across projects.
• Collaborate with NYC Agencies and stakeholders to resolve blockers.
