Job summary

NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for enforcing the NYC Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution to ensure safe, lawful use of buildings. The agency leads construction safety initiatives, oversees multiple divisions, and coordinates with a wide range of city and state partners to maintain high standards of compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory experience in inspections of building construction; providing site safety oversight during construction or demolition work; or in architecture or engineering performing work in building design or building construction.
• At least 18 months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or consultative capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates the implementation and reporting on the Agency’s construction safety initiatives.
• Oversees the Construction Safety division, including Safety Standards & Guidance, Compliance, and Enforcement units.
• Represents the Commissioner to external stakeholders and liaises with city and state agencies.
• Prepares legally mandated reports and submits to government agencies.
• Coordinates special inspections projects with Enforcement inspection units and borough offices.
• Ensures Department emergency preparedness and incident response readiness.
