Job summary

Turner Construction in Boston is offering an Environmental Health and Safety Intern position on a temporary basis. You will assist in safety and loss control activities on a construction project or office location, under supervision.

The role supports the Building L.I.F.E. program, identifies hazards, coordinates safety meetings, reviews subcontractor safety programs, and helps administer the drug screening program, with travel limited.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 1 year of completed education, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
• Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills
• Assume personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate
• Able to work independently with direction and supervision, and in team environment
• High attention to detail and organizational skills
• Able to take direction, learn and process information quickly, and follow tasks through to completion
• Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and collaboration tools
• Limited travel may be required, access to reliable transportation required

Responsibilities

• Assist with safety and loss control activities on construction projects or office locations under supervision
• Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, focusing on imminent danger to life or property
• Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox talks
• Coordinate training at safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations
• Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with policies
• Promote safe work practices in accordance with regulations and owner/contractual requirements
• Assist with administration of drug screening program as required
• Support preconstruction meetings and document meetings under supervision
• Conduct jobsite and work area inspections and develop inspection summaries
• Maintain safety records (e.g., JHA, OSHA logs, training records)
• Assist with worker orientations and participation documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
