Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Project Safety Assistant for an Indianapolis site to support enforcement of Environmental Health & Safety policies and risk management on construction projects. You will help identify hazards, coordinate safety training, and assist with safety program administration on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field and 1 year of construction safety experience or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Ability to identify safety related exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to take direction and follow through with commitments.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Analytical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work in a non-structured environment and reprioritize as needed.
• Proficient in computer and data entry; MS Office and collaboration tools.
• Limited travel may be required; access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with enforcement and adherence of EH&S policies on construction projects.
• Support identification, elimination, and control of hazardous conditions.
• Assist with safety training, Building L.I.F.E. program, and EH&S trainings.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies and regulations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor training per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions in line with regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with drug screening program administration.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervisor.
• Conduct worker orientation programs and record participation.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for contractors.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training, toolbox talks, OSHA 300 log, MSDS).
• Conduct safety meetings; record and issue minutes.
• Maintain subcontractor toolbox meeting logs and provide summaries.
• Conduct site safety audits and inspections; recommend corrective actions.
• Identify and report safety violations or imminent danger.
• Other duties as assigned.
