We are seeking an experienced Construction Account Manager with a strong general construction background to join our team. This is a unique blend of account management, sales support, estimating, project coordination, and customer service within the residential construction industry.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable sitting across from a client or builder and speaking confidently about both the business and technical sides of construction. You should be able to pick up a set of plans, understand the scope and construction details, discuss margins and pricing, and communicate clearly when questions or issues arise.
This is not a traditional sales or administrative position. We are looking for someone who understands construction and can have an intelligent conversation with builders, project managers, superintendents, estimators, and other technical contacts.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for established builder and residential construction clients.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and follow-up.
- Support business development and sales teams with new leads, opportunities, bids, and proposals.
- Coordinate the full bid process from lead intake through estimating, internal review, and proposal submission.
- Review construction plans and understand project scope, materials, pricing, and construction requirements.
- Communicate technical project details and resolve questions or discrepancies with clients.
- Be able to explain pricing and margin changes to customers and address questions such as why a bid increased or decreased.
- Work closely with estimating, operations, purchasing, and business development teams.
- Track opportunities, sales activity, and account information in Salesforce.
- Prepare proposals, bid packages, and other client documentation.
- Address client issues including PO discrepancies, project changes, pricing questions, and scope concerns.
- Maintain visibility and communication between clients and internal teams.
- Participate in occasional client events, lunches, and dinners, generally a few times per month.
What We're Looking For
- General construction experience with a strong understanding of residential construction.
- Experience as a Project Manager, Superintendent, Purchasing Manager, Sales professional, Account Manager, or similar construction-related position.
- Ability to read and understand a set of construction plans.
- Ability to understand construction costs, pricing, margins, and the business side of projects.
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to discuss construction issues confidently with clients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and utilize CRM and business systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple accounts and opportunities.
- Customer-focused personality with the confidence to speak with builders and technical professionals.
- Experience working in both the field and office is highly preferred.
