Job summary

The Dixon Group in Chestertown, MD is seeking a Project Manager to oversee all phases of commercial construction from initiation to closeout. You will plan, coordinate, and lead multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment with client requirements and specifications.

Responsibilities include developing schedules and budgets, managing procurement, and monitoring quality, safety, and compliance. Strong communication and leadership are essential to delivering projects on time and within scope.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering preferred; otherwise 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects over $5,000,000.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills including planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents including blueprints and construction schematics.
  • Knowledge of local permits, regulations, and approval processes.
  • Strong financial understanding and cost control experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software; MS Office/Google Suite.
  • Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good driving record.

Responsibilities

Project Manager

Location: 913 Washington Ave, Chestertown MD, 21620.

Work Hours: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 per year.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, coordinating and managing all phases of construction projects, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closeout.
  • Establishing project objectives, scope and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with client requirements.
  • Developing and managing project schedules, budgets and resource allocations to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to monitor construction progress, resolve issues and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Managing procurement processes, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations and vendor selection.
  • Overseeing project budgeting and cost control and managing change orders to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Conducting regular site inspections to assess project progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining effective communication with project team members and stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns and foster strong working relationships.
  • Developing comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies.
  • Coordinating and overseeing construction activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications.
  • Evaluating and selecting contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Monitoring project progress, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting on project status to stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritizing a safe working environment for all involved.
  • Managing construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders.
  • Conducting regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives.
  • Providing regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates, and any significant developments or risks.
  • Implementing and enforcing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  • Carrying out thorough project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance work environment.
  • Ensuring the owner is "Delighted".
  • Being able to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Being available to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering preferred; otherwise a minimum of five (5) years of experience managing commercial construction projects with an annual value exceeding $5,000,000.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including project blueprints and construction schematics.
  • Knowledge of local construction regulations, permits and approval processes.
  • Strong financial understanding and experience in project budgeting and cost control.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage project teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software; and Microsoft Office/Google Suite.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with lean construction principles and methodologies.
