Job summary

University of Virginia is seeking a Construction Project Manager to oversee renovations across University Grounds. The CPM will coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors and in-house trades to ensure project scope, schedule, and budget goals are met.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Four years of experience in project or construction management, commercial construction, architecture, or engineering.
  • Scheduling software experience preferred (eBuilder, Procore, Project Server).

Responsibilities

  • Determine and ensure scope, schedule and budget are adhered to throughout the project.
  • Develop and maintain project documents, logs, and files including status reports, submittals, change orders, and RFIs.
  • Oversee procurement of materials, services, and implementation documents.
  • Perform daily and final inspections of all assigned projects.
  • Provide detailed cost estimates for approval.
  • Obtain project and building permits when required.
  • Review project goals with stakeholders and assign team members to project phases.
  • Ensure contractors comply with negotiated contract documents.
  • Issue daily reports and cost issue logs.
  • Review plans and suggest improvements to engineering details and construction practicality.
  • Oversee occupancy, turnover and close-out processes.

Exciting career opportunities await individuals to contribute to the dynamic projects within the UVA Health Division and the Academic Division of Construction and Renovation Services (C&RS)! We are actively recruiting for a Construction Project Manager (CPM’s) to oversee and support the renovation of spaces across University Grounds. C&RS offers a variety of services ranging from general trade support for small projects to full planning, design and construction support for renovation projects under $2 million and full construction services for projects over $2 million. This role offers professional development opportunities and clear career pathways within Facilities Management.

Position Summary

Construction Project Managers (CPM) manage daily construction phase management on various projects across the University. They facilitate the efforts of architects, engineers, subcontractors, and in-house trades. Construction Project Managers promote completion of non-capital and capital projects by developing, monitoring, and managing project requirements. Construction Project Managers work autonomously on routine management and correspondence concerning construction from inception through project close out; however, they report to and receive guidance from their supervisors.

Responsibilities
  • Determine and ensure scope, schedule and budget are adhered to throughout the project.
  • Develop and maintain project documents, logs, and files to include status reports, submittals, change orders, and requests for information (RFI).
  • Oversee procurement of materials, services, and implementation documents.
  • Perform daily and final inspections of all assigned projects.
  • Provide detailed cost estimates for approval.
  • Obtain project and building permits when required.
  • Receive project assignments and review project committee and customer goals and objectives for the project.
  • Assign project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project, such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
  • Ensure contractors comply with negotiated contract documents.
  • Issue daily report, noncompliance notices, and cost issue log.
  • Review preliminary and final plans; make recommendations for improving engineering details and construction practicality.
  • Oversee occupancy, turn over and close-out process.
  • Determine construction progress and resolve construction problems with project manager, architect, and contractor.
  • Develop schedules with all parties on the team and Update Project Resource Schedule on a regular basis with input from the construction team.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in project or construction management, commercial construction, architecture, or engineering
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering
  • Previous experience with scheduling software, eBuilder, Procore and Project Server
Other Necessary Skills
  • A fluent understanding and frequent use of computer programs such as: MS Excel, MS Word, and the larger MS suite is essential for this role.
Compensation

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands
