Job summary

TMG Construction Corp in Falls Church, VA invites current students pursuing a B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree to join as Construction Interns.

You will work directly for the Project Management team, supporting all phases of day-to-day activities to deliver a variety of construction projects, with a focus on learning the construction process. This developmental role exposes you to shop drawings, RFIs, document control, change management, estimating, scheduling,

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a B.S. degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree; prior internship experience helpful but not required.
• Solid understanding/proficiency with spreadsheets, Email, and other software used in the construction industry.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in an environment driven by deadlines.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Must be able to lift and handle 50-pound objects.
• Must be fully mobile and capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders and stairs daily to inspect work, direct subcontractors and TMG’s field forces, and assure safety and quality.
• Must have a clean driving record to facilitate getting materials from suppliers when necessary.
• Ability to work in a team environment, possess a positive can-do attitude and customer focus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support all aspects of project management, and field operations where necessary, for multiple small projects or large projects.
• Support the project management team by assisting in the processing of shop drawings, the workflow of RFIs, document control, change management, outsourcing, estimating, scheduling, and other related activities.
• Support the Project Manager, Superintendent, or other management roles in the construction process through all phases of the life-cycle of a project.
• Assist in the creation, updating, and maintenance of project controls that track status, changes, and quality controls.
• Work with subject matter experts to assist in the creation, review, and processing of shop drawings and other submittals.
• Support the change management process by learning to update logs, route source documents, obtain pricing, develop estimates, write change orders.
• Support the estimating process by learning to perform quantity surveys using digitizers, 3D modeling software, and paper-based processes.
• Participate in and become familiar with establishing and maintaining project schedules using scheduling software.
• Develop an understanding of contract terms and legal requirements to prevent rework and delays.
