Job summary

MXI Partners in Illinois seeks a Project Executive to own and expand its regional data center construction operations. You will lead end-to-end delivery on major projects, coordinating civil, structural, MEP, and commissioning activities while shaping regional growth and client relationships.

The role combines hands-on delivery leadership with strategic oversight to drive profitability and scale a growing regional business, with significant autonomy and executive responsibility.

Qualifications

• Extensive construction management experience with a general contractor, including leadership on large-scale data center or mission-critical developments.
• Proven experience delivering data center construction projects from ground-up through commissioning and handover.
• Experience as Project Executive/Senior Project Executive or operations leader overseeing multiple complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional development and expansion of the data center construction division, establishing structure, delivery capabilities, and teams.
• Own multiple large-scale data center projects from preconstruction to final commissioning and handover.
• Provide hands-on leadership across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes.
• Oversee MEP installations, critical power and cooling, equipment integration, white-space fit-outs, and commissioning.
• Develop regional construction teams and establish a high-performance delivery culture.
• Cultivate relationships with data center owners, developers, hyperscale clients, and key partners.
• Oversee budgets, schedules, procurement, subcontractors, risk, quality, and profitability.
• Collaborate with leadership to set regional strategies and growth opportunities.
• Lead pursuits, preconstruction planning, negotiations, and execution strategies.

We are partnering with a rapidly expanding general contractor specializing in large-scale data center and mission-critical construction to appoint a Project Executive who will play a pivotal role in developing and expanding the company's regional operations.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced construction leader to take ownership of major data center projects while helping establish and grow a regional division. The successful candidate will have significant influence over regional growth, project delivery strategy, team development, and client relationships, with the autonomy to shape the direction of the business.

Unlike a traditional divisional leadership position, this is a highly construction-focused role.

The Project Executive will remain actively involved in the end-to-end delivery of complex data center developments, overseeing everything from preconstruction and ground‑up construction through MEP integration, critical infrastructure installation, commissioning, and final client handover.

The company is seeking an entrepreneurial construction professional who can combine technical project delivery expertise with the commercial and leadership capabilities required to scale a growing regional business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the regional development and expansion of the company's data center construction division, helping establish the operational structure, delivery capabilities, and project teams required to support sustained growth.
• Take executive-level ownership of multiple large-scale data center construction projects, overseeing the full project lifecycle from preconstruction and initial site development through final commissioning and handover.
• Provide hands‑on construction leadership across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) scopes, ensuring successful coordination and integration of all major construction packages.
• Oversee complex MEP installations, critical power and cooling infrastructure, equipment integration, white‑space fit‑outs, commissioning activities, and operational readiness.
• Develop and lead regional construction teams, including Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Executives, and other key delivery personnel, establishing a high‑performance project delivery culture.
• Drive regional business growth by developing relationships with data center owners, developers, hyperscale clients, and key industry partners, supporting new project opportunities and repeat business.
• Maintain executive oversight of project budgets, schedules, procurement, subcontractor performance, commercial risk, quality assurance, and overall profitability.
• Work closely with senior leadership to establish regional construction strategies, identify market opportunities, develop operational capabilities, and support the long‑term growth of the division.
• Lead major project pursuits, preconstruction planning, contract negotiations, and project execution strategies, ensuring the business is positioned to secure and successfully deliver increasingly complex developments.
• Act as the senior point of contact for clients and project stakeholders, ensuring construction delivery aligns with commercial objectives, technical requirements, and critical project milestones.

Experience & Requirements

• Extensive construction management experience with a general contractor, including significant leadership responsibility on large-scale data center or mission‑critical developments.
• Proven experience delivering data center construction projects, ideally covering ground‑up construction, MEP integration, critical infrastructure, commissioning, and white‑space fit‑outs.
• Previous experience operating as a Project Executive, Senior Project Executive, Operations Director, or senior construction leader overseeing multiple complex projects.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, and critical infrastructure systems within data center environments, alongside broader general contracting expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large construction teams, manage multiple project delivery functions, and oversee significant project portfolios.
• Experience supporting regional expansion, developing construction teams, establishing project delivery processes, or scaling operations within a growing general contractor.
• Strong commercial acumen, including project financial management, subcontractor negotiations, contract administration, risk management, and profitability.
• Established relationships within the data center construction market, including owners, developers, subcontractors, and key delivery partners.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate autonomously, take ownership of regional initiatives, and balance strategic growth objectives with hands‑on construction delivery.
