Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager – Government Construction

Location: West Point, NY – Remote in NY

Salary: $80K to $125K

Payrate (Hourly): $50/hr. to $70/hr.

Description:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Project Manager to provide Architectural/Engineering (A/E) support services for a federal government construction project at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. This is a full-time opportunity offering a hybrid work arrangement with most responsibilities performed remotely within New York State, with occasional on-site visits.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering expertise, experience in construction environments (preferably on federal or military projects), and the ability to manage tasks such as scheduling, reporting, inspections, and technical coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the prime construction contractor in technical and project management functions.
• Oversee and monitor project records, budgets, and schedules.
• Participate in construction inspections, progress reporting, safety monitoring, and team meetings.
• Respond to RFIs and oversee system testing and commissioning activities.
• Provide design-phase services in mechanical engineering; electrical engineering knowledge is a plus.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including architectural, civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Optional involvement in specialty areas such as corrosion control, seismic upgrades, or hazardous material abatement.
• (Optional but valued): Familiarity with civil works such as dredging, flood risk management, beach nourishment, and locks/dams.

Qualifications

Top Priority:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in construction-related mechanical engineering or project management.
• Experience on federal, military, or large-scale public infrastructure projects.
• Strong organizational, communication, and remote collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.

Additional Considerations:

• Experience with commissioning, field inspections, or engineering design services.
• Knowledge of electrical systems and design is a plus.
• Familiarity with military construction or civil works is a strong advantage.
