Job description

Haugland Group, a privately-owned Long Island, New York-based civil infrastructure and energy construction company has an immediate opportunity for an experiencedCivil Project Engineerto join our growing Trenchless Division.

This role supports trenchless operations under Eastern Utilities Services (EUS), a division of Haugland Group specializing in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), microtunneling, and auger bore installations. Our trenchless group operates maxi HDD rigs and large-diameter installation equipment, capable of delivering challenging crossings across utility, energy, and public sector markets nationwide.

We’re seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to assist with day-to-day project management, coordination, and execution. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting HDD and trenchless projects through submittal tracking, material logistics, schedule development, budget management, and documentation.

Location:

This is a remote position. Travel to project sites is required on an as-needed basis as determined by management – approximately 30% travel is expected.

Key Functions

  • Support the Project Management team with engineering and procedural planning; identify opportunities for value engineering.
  • Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Manage project schedules (CPM baseline and updates).
  • Assist with project budgets, cost-to-complete tracking, and monthly forecasting.
  • Oversee material approvals, deliveries, and inventory tracking.
  • Maintain accurate project data in the ERP system (Vista or similar).
  • Coordinate with Finance for cost coding, invoice validation, and reporting.
  • Participate in field visits and collaborate with site crews as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in civil construction, infrastructure, or trenchless projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with HDD or other trenchless technologies (preferred but not required).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP systems a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and communicate clearly.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time, based on project needs.
