Job summary

ATALNT is seeking an experienced Construction Project Director - General Contractor in San Diego to provide executive-level leadership throughout the project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout.

This role oversees project teams, maintains key client and design relationships, drives financial performance, and supports business development across the San Diego market; candidates must live and work in San Diego with established local relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in construction-related field.
• Extensive experience in senior construction leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive-level oversight throughout all phases of construction projects.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for owners, architects, consultants, and project teams.
• Lead project pursuits, proposal development, and interview preparation.
• Support business development and expansion of the company's San Diego market presence.
• Maintain accountability for project budgets, forecasting, cost control, billing, and profitability.
• Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and industry partners.
• Build, lead, coach, and develop high-performing project teams.
• Manage project resources and staffing requirements.
• Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.

Position Summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• 15+ years of progressive construction experience.
• Previous experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Operations Leader, or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of and established relationships within the San Diego construction market.
• Proven ability to lead large, complex construction projects or major programs.
• Strong understanding of construction budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Extensive experience with Lump Sum, GMP, Negotiated, Design-Build, and Hard Bid delivery methods.
• Strong knowledge of estimating, preconstruction, constructability, and value engineering.
• Experience with public sector, healthcare, higher education, civic/municipal, or infrastructure projects strongly preferred.
• Self-perform construction experience preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills.
• Strong business development and relationship-building capabilities.
• Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong decision-making, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
