Job summary

John W. Danforth Company is hiring a General Accountant to support financial operations including cost tracking, billing, and reporting for our mechanical construction projects in the Northeast. You will help ensure compliance with policies and standards while partnering with project managers and field teams.

The role emphasizes accurate job costing, timely billings, and close collaboration across finance and operations to drive project profitability and financial performance.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of accounting experience in mechanical construction or project-based environments.
• Bachelor’s or equivalent experience in Accounting/Finance.
• Knowledge of construction project accounting, GMP contracts, job costing, forecasting, and project financial reporting.
• Experience with project billing, revenue recognition, and OCIP/CCIP programs is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Maintain project cost ledgers and allocate costs to correct codes.
• Track expenditures, commitments, and resources against budgets.
• Prepare monthly customer billings per contracts.
• Monitor retention balances and release funds.
• Review weekly labor and field payroll for proper costing.
• Assist with OCIP/CCIP enrollment and reporting.
• Support monthly, quarterly, year-end close processes.
• Reconcile general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for management.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Collaborate with project managers and finance to support profitability.
