Job summary

Upstate Cos is seeking a Construction Project Accountant to support financial operations across construction projects, from setup to completion. Responsibilities include project accounting, billing, contract administration, reporting, and regulatory compliance to ensure accurate records and timely reports.

The role requires knowledge of job costing, progress billing, and subcontract management, with a focus on accuracy, organization, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of three years accounting experience, preferably in construction.
  • Knowledge of construction job costing, progress billing, and subcontract administration.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Excel; experience with construction accounting software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up construction projects, including Schedule of Values (SOV), DOL requirements, and job cost coding.
  • Process purchase orders, accounts receivable invoices, deposits, progress billings, and ad hoc billings.
  • Manage subcontracts, change orders, pay applications, and approved subcontractor payments.
  • Prepare weekly accounts receivable aging reports and monitor outstanding balances.
  • Prepare bonding documentation, contractor affidavits, and Builder's Risk reports.
  • Maintain fuel log allocations and support project financial analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures while maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Construction Project Accountant

Reports To: Controller

Position Summary

The Construction Project Accountant supports the financial operations of construction projects from job setup through completion. This position is responsible for project accounting, billing, contract administration, reporting, and regulatory compliance while ensuring accurate financial records and timely project reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up construction projects, including Schedule of Values (SOV), Department of Labor (DOL) requirements, and job cost coding.
  • Process purchase orders, accounts receivable invoices, deposits, progress billings, and ad hoc billings.
  • Manage subcontracts, change orders, pay applications, and approved subcontractor payments.
  • Prepare weekly accounts receivable aging reports and monitor outstanding balances.
