PPM Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Buyer to join a busy construction procurement team in York. You will support the Buyer and Quantity Surveying team with procurement of materials, subcontract packages and services, ensuring projects stay on time and within budget.

The role suits someone with prior construction procurement experience or a trainee looking to progress, offering development towards Buyer and Senior Buyer roles within a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction procurement, buying or purchasing.
• Knowledge of construction materials and supply chains.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Good IT skills, especially Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines.
• Willingness to develop within the role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the procurement of materials, plant, subcontractors and specialist services.
• Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare and issue enquiries and purchase orders.
• Assist with negotiating competitive prices and commercial terms.
• Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier information.
• Monitor orders and ensure materials and services are delivered in line with project requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Assist with reviewing supplier and subcontractor performance.
• Support the Buyer and Quantity Surveying team with procurement activities.
• Monitor market prices and identify potential cost savings.
• Assist with managing procurement schedules and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
• Liaise with site teams, Quantity Surveyors, Estimators and Project Managers.
• Ensure procurement is carried out in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
