Job summary

UES internship program offers hands-on experience bridging classroom knowledge with applied construction materials testing. Over 10 weeks, you will rotate through soils and concrete laboratories and field testing to understand how materials behave in real-world conditions and how testing impacts project success.

You'll complete a capstone project and gain practical skills across field and lab environments, preparing you for a career in engineering or construction material testing.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Completion of at least two years of coursework preferred.
• Strong academic foundation in engineering principles; interest in fieldwork and testing.
• Effective communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS or other engineering software is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Soils Laboratory Testing: Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, proctor compaction, swell tests.
• Concrete Laboratory Testing: Prepare/test specimens, measure cylinder dimensions, determine material strength.
• Field Testing - Soils: Density tests, proof rolling, lime treatments observation.
• Field Testing - Concrete: Plastic concrete testing, cast cylinders, verify rebar placement.
