Job summary

ECS Group of Companies in Buffalo Grove, IL is seeking a CMT Intern Level I to observe and perform routine field and laboratory testing tasks under supervision, gaining exposure to soil, concrete, asphalt testing, and project workflows.

You will assist with data collection, documentation, and equipment organization, while developing foundational technical skills and professional competencies aligned with ECS core values.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, or Master degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Willingness to work in outdoor environments and field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assists with construction materials observation and testing activities in the field and laboratory.
• Observes and participates in testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
• Documents site conditions and testing results accurately in field reports.
• Assists with the preparation and organization of field and laboratory equipment.
• Performs basic data entry, calculations, and data reduction tasks.
• Communicates with field staff, contractors, and project team members.
• Keeps supervisors informed of changing site conditions or additional testing needs.
• Assists with reviewing laboratory results and supporting project documentation.
• Supports laboratory testing activities, including sample preparation, curing, and testing.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of field and laboratory work areas.
• Notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment.
• Attends project meetings with senior staff as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned
