Overview
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we keep the cloud running by supporting every data center and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Amazon’s owner representative on construction sites, interacting daily with construction trades.
- Drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors for new builds or general capital projects.
- Own construction project scope, quality, schedule, and budget.
- Interface directly with general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases.
- Conduct negotiations and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
- Create construction project scope and requests for proposals.
- Perform financial analysis of construction.
- Manage projects aimed at increasing data center resiliency.
- Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs for new or optimized data centers.
- Manage construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
- Ensure construction project quality control.
- Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
- Drive teams to troubleshoot and conduct root‑cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures.
- Lead within the group and across internal and external teams that support the data center.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large‑scale mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science, or 12+ years relevant overall experience in lieu of a degree.
- 8+ years of relevant experience constructing and managing complex MEP systems, including large‑scale power distribution/generation gear and cooling systems in mission‑critical environments.
- 8+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations such as Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA.
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
- Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.
