Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Data Center Construction Manager in Manassas, VA to lead cost, schedule, and quality on data-center projects.

You will act as Amazon's on‑site owner’s representative, coordinating with Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to deliver efficient, highly reliable facilities. As a Data Center Construction Manager, you will be part of a creative, diverse team tasked with solving fascinating problems in constructing Amazon Data Centers. Our data centers are industry-leading examples of energy‑efficient, cost‑effective designs. You will work alongside partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our Customers. On the construction site daily, you will act as Amazon's owner's representative, responsible for driving cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors.

Key responsibilities
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and closeout phases.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Perform financial analysis of construction.
  • Manage construction projects for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs associated with new or optimized data centers.
  • Manage construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
  • Ensure construction project quality control and record and report key construction metrics.
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root‑cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures.
  • Lead within the group and within internal and external teams that support the data center.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA.
  • Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with deep understanding of electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.
