Job summary

STV Incorporated is seeking a Construction Manager in the Virginia Beach, VA area within its Transportation division. The role focuses on growing the CEI practice, leading projects, mentoring staff, and developing client relationships.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering/CM background, is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia or CCM/CACM certification, and 10 years of highway construction experience with VDOT exposure.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field.
  • Virginia Professional Engineer License, CCM, or CACM preferred.
  • 10 years of highway construction or design experience; experience with VDOT and Virginia municipalities preferred.
  • Strong report writing and client communication skills.
  • Ability to lead construction teams on transportation projects and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction management activities on roadway/highway and bridge projects.
  • Assist business development within the CEI practice.
  • Recruit construction managers, engineers, and inspectors; mentor CEI staff.
  • Lead project management on select projects; oversee CEI staff deliverables.
  • Develop positive relationships with clients and support proposals.

Job description

STV has an immediate need for a Construction Manager in the Virginia Beach, VA area for our Transportation division.

The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the Construction Management and CEI practice to better service our clients statewide. This role offers unlimited opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV's service offerings geographically, be involved in major transportation projects, mentor junior staff, and promote the culture of a healthy work-life balance. This position offers a challenging role at an Engineer News-Record (ENR) Top 50 rated firm. The ideal candidate is an individual who desires to lead through example, is professionally respected, an excellent communicator, and possesses a strong understanding of construction safety principles.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform construction management activities and assist in the administration of roadway/highway and bridge construction projects.
  • Assist with business development activities within the CEI practice
  • Assist with recruiting efforts for construction managers, engineers, and inspectors
  • Provide training and mentorship to CEI staff
  • Serve as Project Manager on select projects as needed
  • Provide quality oversight of CEI staff on project activities and deliverables
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with clients
  • Assist with the technical development of proposals and qualification packages
  • Read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications
  • Effectively communicate with project staff and clients, both verbal and written communication
Specific Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field
  • Virginia Professional Engineer License, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM) preferred
  • 10 years of highway construction or design experience (additional experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements)
  • Previous experience working with VDOT and Virginia municipalities
  • Skilled in technical report writing and communicating with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to lead construction teams on transportation projects
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
Compensation Range

Compensation Range: $111,362.75 - $127,271.72

STV is committed to paying all of its employees in a fair, equitable, and transparent manner. The listed pay range is STV's good-faith salary estimate for this position. Please note that the final salary offered for this position may be outside of this published range based on many factors, including but not limited to geography, education, experience, and/or certifications.
