MMI Industrial & Steel is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee a portfolio of industrial construction projects. You will drive tactical execution, coordinate resources, and ensure safety, quality, and on‑time delivery while aligning with company standards.
You will lead Project Managers and Superintendents, translate strategy into daily action, and identify risks with proactive recovery plans. Travel to project sites will be regular in this senior role.
Construction Manager: Multi‑Project Oversight and Tactical Execution Strategy. The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple active construction projects and ensuring consistent execution across the project portfolio. This role partners closely with the Director of Industrial & Steel Services to drive operational excellence by supporting Project Managers and Superintendents, coordinating resources, monitoring project performance, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with MMI standards.
The Construction Manager serves as a tactical leader who translates company strategy into daily execution. This position proactively identifies project risks, removes operational roadblocks, develops field leadership, and promotes accountability across all phases of construction while supporting the continued growth of the Industrial & Steel Services division.
Oversee multiple active construction projects simultaneously to ensure successful execution across the project portfolio.
Monitor project cost, schedule, productivity, labor performance, quality, and profitability.
Conduct routine project reviews to identify risks, performance trends, and opportunities for improvement.
Support project teams in developing recovery plans for projects that are behind schedule or budget.
Ensure project documentation, forecasting, reporting, and communication remain accurate and timely.
Escalate significant project issues to leadership and assist in developing effective solutions.
Coach, mentor, and support Project Managers and Superintendents to improve operational performance.
Ensure projects are properly planned, staffed, and prepared before field execution begins.
Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and material resources across multiple projects.
Promote consistency in project execution, communication, and operational standards.
Assist in resolving field issues, client concerns, and operational conflicts.
Support implementation of company initiatives, best practices, and operational improvements.
Champion MMI’s safety culture across all projects and reinforce compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Partner with Safety leadership to support proactive safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
Conduct regular jobsite visits to evaluate field operations, safety performance, and quality standards.
Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
Ensure quality expectations are consistently communicated and maintained throughout project execution.
Support the Director of Industrial & Steel Services in executing operational strategies and departmental initiatives.
Analyze project performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
Recommend and implement process improvements that increase consistency, productivity, and project outcomes.
Foster collaboration between Operations, Project Management, Estimating, Safety, and Field teams.
Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience managing commercial, industrial, or structural steel construction projects.
Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience overseeing Project Managers, Superintendents, or multi‑project construction teams.
Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects with responsibility for cost, schedule, quality, and client satisfaction.
Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project controls, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and change management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software, including Procore or similar project management platforms.
Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel regularly to project sites.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience managing industrial construction, structural steel, manufacturing, or fabrication projects.
Experience leading operational improvement initiatives across multiple project teams.
Working knowledge of Lean Construction principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety leadership training.
PMP, CCM, DBIA, or other construction management certification.
Experience with ERP systems, project dashboards, and construction analytics.
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. This role is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic presence in shop and construction project settings. The employee must be able to work at a computer workstation for extended periods, including viewing screens and using standard input devices such as a keyboard and mouse. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to read and interpret reports, schedules, drawings, and other work‑related documents in electronic and printed formats. The role may require occasional standing, walking, and movement within office, shop, and construction site environments, including navigating stairs and uneven surfaces in accordance with safety requirements. Occasional lifting or carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds may be required. The position may also involve occasional bending, reaching, or stooping in the course of observing work activities or accessing materials. This position may require occasional travel to project sites, fabrication facilities, or vendor locations.
