Construction Laborer (Construction)

The primary responsibilities of a Construction Laborer involve performing a wide variety of manual duties in support of telecommunications construction. This role includes tasks involving physical labor on job sites and light/heavy construction projects. The position requires maintaining control of outside plant (OSP)/inside plant (ISP) activities within the assigned work areas, supporting project timelines, conducting inspections, and designing and providing accurate as-builts for projects. Additional duties and qualifications may be assigned as needed. (Duties may vary depending on management.)

Essential Position Functions:
  1. Utilize a variety of hand tools, operate power tools and equipment for outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) utility construction.
  2. DIG trenches (by hand or power), clean rubble and debris, backfill excavations, compact earth to grade specifications, and remove waste materials.
  3. Load and unload materials, machinery, and tools at designated locations.
  4. Perform strenuous manual labor tasks in road, utility easement, and private property environments to prepare sites for telecommunications construction.
  5. Place cabinets, hand holes, and manholes accurately.
  6. Install conduits and push/pull fiber and coax cables.
  7. Operate commercial vehicles and pull trailers as required.
  8. Recognize underground and aerial utilities to avoid hazards during construction.
  9. Maintain a clean and safe job site daily, securing tools and equipment.
  10. Safely operate underground excavation equipment, access manholes, trenches, and excavations.
  11. Ensure all work complies with safety standards and governmental regulations.
  12. Use hand tools, ladders, and equipment to complete assigned projects.
  13. Document daily work, material usage, and perform record-keeping tasks.
  14. Follow established safety and health guidelines.
  15. Solve problems efficiently with minimal supervision.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least 1 year of telecommunication construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools required.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass background and drug tests.
Physical Demands:

Must be able to walk, stand, sit frequently, lift up to 100 lbs, and work in various weather conditions. Must pass a DOT physical and obtain a DOT Health Card. Ability to work alone or with a team and communicate effectively is required.

Work Environment:

Field environment with travel up to 50%. Ability to work in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends. Must be able to operate vehicles, ladders, and work at heights up to 40 feet. Work may involve loud environments and working independently or as part of a team. Daily face-to-face and verbal communication is essential.
