Job summary

Aerotek in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Construction Labor to support shop and field tasks, building and assembling metal and steel panels for architectural, ornamental, and decorative metalwork projects. Job Description

This role involves working both in the shop and in the field performing general labor, construction, and installation duties related to metal and steel parts. You will help build and assemble metal and steel panels for a variety of customers, supporting architectural, ornamental, and decorative metalwork projects. The position requires flexibility to work indoors and outdoors, travel to job sites as needed, and confidently use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble metal and steel panels for a variety of architectural, ornamental, and decorative projects.
• Perform general labor and construction tasks in both the shop and field environments.
• Travel to job sites as needed and reliably transport yourself to and from work locations using your own vehicle.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery to cut, grind, sand, and prepare metal and other raw materials.
• Accurately read and use a tape measure and combo squares to ensure precise measurements and cuts.
• Operate saws and other cutting tools, including band saws, table saws, and chop saws, to cut wood and other materials for crating and production needs.
• Assist with grinding, polishing, and sanding metal surfaces to meet quality and finish requirements.
• Perform general clean-up of the facility to maintain a safe and organized work area.
• Crate parts and fabricate wooden crates as needed for shipping and storage.
• Properly load and unload trucks, ensuring materials and finished products are handled safely and efficiently.
• Support pallet wrapping and shrink wrapping of materials and finished goods for transport and storage.
• Participate in sanding and prepping metal components prior to installation or finishing.
• Work as a shop hand to support production, installation, and other operational activities as assigned.
• Train on forklift operation and obtain certification upon becoming a permanent employee, then safely use forklifts as required.
• Lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more in a hot, physically demanding environment.
• Follow all safety procedures, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to shop and field safety rules.

Essential Skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in landscaping, production, or general labor roles can be helpful for this position.
• Familiarity with crating, pallet wrapping, and shrink wrapping processes is an advantage.
• Comfort working as a shop hand in a busy fabrication environment.
• Interest in cross-training into welding, glazing, or other metalwork specialties.
• Ability to perform general facility clean-up and maintain an organized work area.
• Strong work ethic and reliability, particularly for early start times and overtime.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new tools and equipment.

Work Environment

You work in a mix of indoor shop and outdoor field environments focused on designing and fabricating custom railings and other decorative metalwork. The shop does not have air conditioning, so you should be comfortable working in a hot environment, especially during warmer months. Standard hours run approximately from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and you must be open to starting as early as 4:00 AM and working 10-hour days when overtime is available. There is currently a significant amount of overtime, and flexibility to work extended hours is important. Field work includes visiting various project sites such as commercial properties, hotels, resorts, student housing, and other large facilities across multiple city areas. You use a range of hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, saws, and basic machinery in a busy fabrication setting. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear and long pants starting on day one; shorts are not permitted and will result in being sent home. The environment is hands-on, physically demanding, and suited to individuals who enjoy active work and craftsmanship in metal fabrication.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tempe, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
