Job summary

Lochner seeks a Civil Engineering internship in Lisle, IL to support inspection and field activities on infrastructure projects. You will work under supervision to verify plans, perform basic measurements, and assist in documenting progress and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and monitors field work to ensure conformance with plans and specs.
  • Checks lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using surveying equipment.
  • Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.
  • Collaborates with Project Engineers and site staff on progress and problems.
  • Ensures highway work zones and traffic control meet contract requirements.
  • Tests and samples materials; follows direction of a licensed professional engineer.

We are looking for seasonal interns to join our teams in Lisle and Chicago, IL.

The Impact You'll Make
  • Inspects and monitors field work activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Checks lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using standard surveying and field measuring equipment
  • Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.
  • Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Ensures highway work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements
  • Tests and/or samples materials
  • Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work.
  • Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
