Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Construction Inspectors I–IV for the San Antonio district to inspect roadways, traffic signals and related structures, ensuring construction is performed to plans and specs. The role offers outdoor work, field collaboration with contractors and engineers, and a direct impact on travel safety and efficiency.

Positions range from I to IV with varying experience requirements; driving a state vehicle is required.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Grad or Equivalent.
• Experience: Inspector I requires none; II requires 1 year; III requires 2 years; IV requires 3 years; substitutions allowed.
• Licenses: Valid driver’s license and ability to drive state vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans to ensure compliance with safety standards and coordinates with contractors and engineers.
• Calculates payments due contractors for work completed and reviews change orders and estimates.
