Job summary

Lochner in Providence, RI is seeking a Civil Engineering/Construction Inspector to support highway and transportation projects. You will read and interpret contract plans, monitor contractor activities, and ensure compliance with specifications and safety requirements on site.

Ideal candidates have a 2-year degree or higher, 0–2 years of inspection experience, and working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. A valid driver's license and potential on-site mileage reimbursement are expected.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or NICET required.
  • 0-2 years of Construction Inspection Experience; RIDOT project experience preferred.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and swing shifts; hourly pay with 1.5x OT for >40 hours/week.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Certifications from NETTCP, ACI, ATSSA, AWS, NACE are a plus but not required.
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver's license with clean driving record; reimbursement for on-site mileage.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret complex contract plans, specifications, special provisions, permits, shop drawings and working drawings.
  • Monitor and report on daily contractor activities; ensure compliance with plans and contract documents.
  • Ensure highway work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements.
  • Ensure work interfering with traffic is performed only during Allowable Periods in contract.
  • Check lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using standard field measuring equipment
  • Measure and calculate quantities of contract items for payments to the contractor
  • Track labor, material and equipment used on each operation covered.
  • Identify plan discrepancies or other potential issues to Chief Inspector/Resident Engineer for resolution; suggest feasible solutions.
  • Identify issues not covered in contract documents to Chief Inspector/Resident Engineer for determination on handling.
  • Perform material testing on site as needed; obtain material samples for testing as required.
  • Be responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work.

Your impact:
