Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a driven Construction Inspector to join the Transportation Group in Port Orange, FL. The role involves inspecting transportation projects, performing measurements, preparing as-built documentation, and conducting materials testing in varied outdoor conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a construction management degree (or equivalent experience) and relevant certifications, plus the ability to travel across the state and work flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field required or equivalent experience.
• Two years of relevant experience if holding an associate’s degree, or four years if no degree.
• FDOT Certifications and erosion control knowledge are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect transportation construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, proposals, and specifications.
• Perform measurements, weights, and calculations to verify accuracy.
• Prepare as-built documentation and plot cross sections to document progress.

Responsibilities Include

• Inspect Transportation Construction Projects: Ensure all work and materials meet project plans, proposals, and specifications
• Perform Key Measurements & Calculations: Verify weights, volumes, and measurements to ensure accuracy
• Prepare "As-Built" Documentation: Plot and run cross sections, and document project progress
• Conduct Materials Testing: Ensure materials meet quality standards throughout the project lifecycle
• Daily Documentation: Record all inspection activities and findings in detailed reports
• Work Outdoors: Enjoy the variety of working in different weather conditions and environments
• Physical Responsibilities: Be prepared for heavy lifting and manual tasks as part of the inspection process
• Travel Across the State: Visit construction sites across the state, ensuring every project is up to code
• Independent Work: Take ownership of your tasks and work with minimal supervision
• Flexible Hours & Travel: Expect extended hours and occasional overnight stays as part of the role

A valid driver’s license is required.

The successful candidate will hold at least two applicable certifications, and one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field
• -OR- An Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field AND two (2) years of relevant experience
• -OR- If no degree, at least four (4) years of relevant experience
