Job description

About Emerald

Emerald is a women-owned firm providing architectural, interior, and construction services through integrated design-build or standalone design and construction offerings. Our projects include residential renovations, additions, custom homes, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), modular construction, and commercial projects.

We are currently seeking a Construction Foreman to join our growing team. This individual will work closely with our General Contractor and Construction Project Manager to lead daily field operations and work alongside our crew on residential and light commercial construction projects.

If you take pride in your work, enjoy leading by example, and bring practical experience in sitework, utilities, and concrete placement, we'd love to hear from you.

About this Position:

We are seeking a hands-on Construction Foreman to organize daily jobsite activities, direct field crews, coordinate trades, and maintain quality and safety while actively participating in construction work. Our construction division self-performs sitework, excavation, foundations, framing, and general carpentry. This role requires the ability to independently read and interpret site/civil, architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing drawings, identify conflicts, and coordinate field work with the project team. We place greater emphasis on demonstrated trade experience and sound construction judgment than on a specific number of years in the industry.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, supervise, and work alongside field crews in daily construction activities
  • Perform and oversee self-performed sitework, excavation, underground utilities, concrete placement, framing, and general carpentry
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, sequencing, manpower, materials, deliveries, and equipment needs
  • Read and interpret site/civil, architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications to coordinate construction accurately
  • Perform field layout, establish grades and elevations, and verify dimensions and existing conditions
  • Coordinate concrete preparation, formwork, reinforcement, placement, finishing, and curing
  • Coordinate onsite work with subcontractors, vendors, and inspectors, including utility and MEP installation requirements
  • Identify drawing discrepancies, trade conflicts, unforeseen conditions, and potential changes; coordinate resolution before proceeding
  • Monitor workmanship, verify installation methods, and support inspections, punch lists, and corrective work
  • Promote and enforce jobsite safety, maintain organized work areas, and protect existing structures, finished work, and client property
  • Provide daily progress updates, photographs, labor records, and anticipated needs through company project management systems
  • Train and mentor field personnel while maintaining accountability for productivity, quality, and professionalism

This is a full-time, field-based position serving project sites throughout Central Massachusetts and other areas within our service region. The Foreman will coordinate field decisions with project leadership and obtain authorization before committing to changes in scope or additional project costs.

Skills and Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in sitework, excavation, underground utilities, and concrete placement is required.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret site/civil, architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications is required.
  • Practical knowledge of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and coordination across multiple trades.
  • Experience performing field layout, establishing elevations and grades, and verifying work against construction documents.
  • Experience with concrete preparation, formwork, reinforcement, placement, finishing, and curing.
  • Working knowledge of underground drainage, water, sewer, and related site infrastructure.
  • Ability to direct field crews while remaining actively involved in construction work; previous crew leadership or mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Experience with residential foundations, structural framing, and general carpentry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction equipment and safe operating procedures; experience operating excavators, skid steers, and compactors is preferred.
  • Understanding of jobsite safety practices and applicable construction standards; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and adjust to changing field conditions.
  • Familiarity with high-performance building assemblies, air sealing, insulation, and building envelopes.
  • Comfortable using digital tools for daily reports, photos, timekeeping, and project communication; Buildertrend or similar software experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of active construction work, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to support the team wherever needed and grow alongside a small, ambitious design-build firm.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation, commensurate with relevant trade experience and leadership capabilities
  • To be established based on experience
  • PTO, sick time, company holidays
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • 401(k) program with company match
  • Team outings and events

  • A collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Involvement in exciting and diverse projects
