Job summary

William Charles Construction, part of MasTec’s Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group, is seeking Construction Field Engineer Interns for Summer 2026 in Rockford, IL. The role supports the Project Manager and Construction Manager, with exposure to estimating and quality plans on the job site.

Responsibilities include field surveys, quality control documentation, audits, material inventory, and coordination with subcontractors.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing an undergraduate four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Occupational Safety and Health/Environmental Safety and Health.
Other applicable degrees include Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

Performs field survey work regarding layout and tracking of work activities, utilizing PC based software and GPS station/field equipment.
Assist with managing project specific quality control records and ensuring that required reporting is accomplished.
Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating to ensure that all required audits/inspections are performed and documented.
Assist with material inventory and receiving paperwork.
Assist with final job closeout, as-builts, job binder creation.
Assist with subcontractor scheduling and management.
Assist with RFI submittals.
Extended work hours and weekend work may be required.
Will provide other duties as assigned.
