Job summary

S. B. Ballard Construction Company, a leading General Contractor in the Mid-Atlantic, headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team in Virginia Beach.

You will analyze drawings, prepare estimates, develop costs for labor, materials and equipment, solicit bids, and collaborate with the estimating team to ensure competitive bids and on-time delivery. This position requires in-person work in Virginia Beach with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Proven experience and knowledge of construction estimating, means and methods, accounting, and document administration.
• Thorough understanding of construction industry materials and practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Experience with On Screen Take-off (OST).
• Experience with Bluebeam.
• LEED certification is preferred but not required.
• DBIA certification is preferred but not required.
• Some periodic travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and final estimates during design development
• Identify cost-saving alternatives and value engineering options
• Assemble complete bid proposals and pricing summaries
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier bids
• Collaborate and reconcile scopes with other members of the estimating team
• Ensure bids comply with project requirements, scope, and deadlines
• Participate in bid reviews and clarifications
• Identify potential risks, constructability issues, and scope gaps
• Prepare reports for management and clients
• Compare estimated vs. actual costs for continuous improvement
• Support negotiations during contract award
• Assist with client presentation preparation
